Tajik bank, non-bank financial organization credit portfolio grows 19% over year

DUSHANBE. May 7 (Interfax) - The credit portfolio of the National Bank of Tajikistan, commercial banks and lending organizations in the national and foreign currencies stood at 5.749 billion somoni, or around $1.209 billion, on April 1, up 19.3% from the same date last year, the National Bank said.

The National Bank's portfolio of credits to commercial banks likewise increased 19.3% - to 119.3 million somoni, or $25.2 million, over that year.

The aggregate credit portfolio in the national currency had increased 14.9% to 2.368 billion somoni, or $498.1 million, and in foreign currency 22.6% to 3.381 billion somoni, or $711.1 million.

The volume of past-due debt on loans at commercial banks and lending organization increased 25.9% over the period to 373.9 million somoni, or $78.6 million.

Deposits by both legal entities and private individuals with Tajik commercial banks in the national and foreign currencies increased 8.4% over the year to April 1 to 4.841 billion somoni, or around $1.018 billion.

Deposits by legal entities decreased 13.2% to 1.741 billion somoni, or $366.3 million. Deposits by private individuals, on the contrary, increased 26.0% to 3.100 billion somoni, or $652 million.

Deposits in the national currency decreased 10.1% to 1.434 billion somoni, or $301.7 million, but deposits in foreign currency increased 18.7% to 3.407 billion somoni, or $716.6 million.

There are sixteen operating commercial banks operating in Tajikistan, five foreign, one state, two non-bank lending organizations, and 125 micro-finance and micro-loan organizations.

The National Bank of Tajikistan does not release consolidated data on the assets of the republic's commercial banks.

The official exchange rate for May 7 is 4.7567 somoni/$1. On April 1, 2013, when a recalculation of deposits and credits in the national and foreign currencies was conducted, the rate was 4.7543 somoni/$1.
