Medvedev proposes extending deadline for citizens' pension choices until 2015
MOSCOW. May 7 (Interfax) - Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has backed the idea of extending by another year the deadline set for citizens to decide where to channel part of their insurance fees.
"I back the proposed extension of the deadline by one year to decide which part will go to the pay-as-you-go pension system and which part to the cumulative pension system," Medvedev said at a meeting which centered on the implementation of President Vladimir Putin's decrees, passed on May 7, 2012.
Labor and Social Welfare Minister Maxim Topilin earlier said that the deadline should be extended until 2015, which will give more time to citizens to decide where to put 4% of their insurance fees - to the pay-as-you-go system, or to the cumulative system.
Putin agreed but remarked that he had not issued instructions to extend the deadline until 2015.
"If you think you are not prepared and need a postponement until 2015, let us discuss this. I think, in principle, that a serious step like this needs to be thoroughly prepared. But don't point at me and don't say I ordered that. I did not issue any instructions of this kind," the president said.
