Russian power exports to non-CIS down 13% in Q1 - customs

MOSCOW. May 8 (Interfax) - Russia exported 3.844 billion kWh of electric power to countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States in the first quarter of this year, a 13% year-on-year decrease, a statement issued by the Federal Customs Service says.

Those exports were worth $198.3 million.

Overall Russian power exports in Q1 were down 17% at 5.17 billion kWh for $278 million.

Electricity exports to CIS countries were also down - 26.6% at 1.326 billion kWh for $79.7 million.

On the other hand, Russia imported 150% more power in Q1 - 994.9 million kWh for $26.7 million. Imports from non-CIS countries amounted to 4.4 million kWh (down 6.4%) and from CIS states 990.4 million kWh (up 150%) during the period.

Russia's export-import operator where it comes to electric power is state-controlled OJSC Inter RAO UES - all foreign trade in power goes through this company. The country's biggest sales market outside the former Soviet Union is Finland.
