Ukrainian coal output dips 3.3% in January-April

KYIV. May 8 (Interfax) - Ukrainian coalmining enterprises produced 27.989 million tonnes of run-of-mine coal in the first four months of 2013, a 3.3% year-on-year decrease, according to the latest figures.

A source at the country's Energy and Coal Industry Ministry told Interfax that output of coking coal decreased 3.4% to 8.246 million tonnes and that of steam coal 3.2% to 19.743 million tonnes.

Coalmining companies under the ministry's management produced 5.8% less coal in January-April - 7.570 million tonnes in all. Their coking coal output contracted 4.7% to 2.210 million tonnes and steam coal output 6.3% to 5.360 million tonnes.

However, all the country's coalmining outfits topped the ministry's production target by 14.7%, the ministry's enterprises by 2.6%.

Coal production in Ukraine increased 4.8% to 85.946 last year, as coal consumption rose 6.2% to 61.207 million tonnes, including by thermal power stations - 1.7% to 32.228 million tonnes.
