Latvian rail freight operator LDz Cargo reduces shipments 10.4% in Jan-April

RIGA. May 13 (Interfax) - Latvian rail freight operator LDz Cargo, part of the Latvijas dzelzcels (LDz) national rail group, shipped 20.693 million tonnes of freight in the first four months of the year, 10.4% less than in the same period last year, the company said in materials.

In April alone LDz Cargo shipped 4.859 million tonnes of freight, 17.7% less year-on-year.

Import freight volume was down 5.4% to 17.603 million tonnes in January-April, including 15.883 million tonnes via the nation's ports, 8.5% less. Export freight fell 11.1% to 1.703 million tonnes, including 537,000 via ports, 56% less.

Transit shipment was down 54.2% to 1.034 million tonnes, while domestic shipment rose 9.3% to 353,000 tonnes.

LDz Cargo shipped 60.601 million tonnes of cargo in 2012, 2% more than in 2011.

LDz Cargo is a 100% subsidiary of state-owned LDz.
