Russia ups non-CIS food product imports in April

MOSCOW. May 13 (Interfax) - Russia increased its imports of grain, frozen fish, sugar, and dairy products from countries outside the Commonwealth of Independent States in April.

The Federal Customs Service (FCS) reported on Monday that grain imports last month had increased 35.8% year-on-year to $52.4 million.

Fish imports were up 3.3% at $198.7 million, including frozen fish - up 29.7% at $72.8 million. Imports of filleted fish were down 38.7% at $16.2 million.

Meat imports increased 5.5% to $55 million. All in all, April imports of meat and meat subproducts from non-CIS countries were down 5.5% at $533 million. Beef imports decreased 7.6% to $212 million and pork imports 2.2% to $194.1 million.

The country imported $177.3 million worth of dairy products, a 17.5% year-on-year increase. Also up were imports of vegetables - 19.5% at $335.4 million and of fruits and nuts - 6.5% at $472.1 million.

Imports of vegetable oil were up 9.9% at $96 million and of sugar 20.6% at $69 million.

Russia imported $198.8 million worth of alcohol and non-alcohol beverages last month, 16.3% up year-on-year. Tobacco imports surged 53.5% to $118.4 million worth.

Generally speaking, Russia imported 9.2% more food goods and ingredients for producing them for $3.143 billion in April.
