Vladimir Fortov becomes top candidate for RAS president - presidium's decision
MOSCOW. May 14 (Interfax) - The Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) has decided to support Vladimir Fortov as its main candidate for president of the academy after a secret vote.
"The majority of presidium members chose Vladimir Fortov as the main candidate for the post of academy president. His name will top the ballot paper," RAS spokeswoman Irina Presnyakova told Interfax on Tuesday.
The surnames of the remaining candidates will appear on the ballot paper after Fortov in alphabetical order.
Four people have officially been nominated for the post of RAS president. They include Zhores Alferov, the winner of the 2000 Nobel Prize in Physics, RAS Vice President Alexander Nekipelov, the academy's incumbent President Yur Osipov and member of the Skolkovo Foundation Consultative Scientific Council Fortov.
The RAS presidential elections will be held on May 29.
