Raspadskaya Mine suspends operations due to excess carbon monoxide
MOSCOW. May 14 (Interfax) - The Raspadskaya Mine, which is part of Russian coal producer OJSC Raspadskaya , suspended all operations besides basic mine support on Tuesday due to the detection of excess carbon monoxide.
On May 6, during a scheduled survey of the mine works at the ninth seam, heightened carbon monoxide content was detected in air samples in an isolated space, Raspadskaya reported.
"The situation with suspended work will not impact the consumers of the Raspadskaya Mine's products because Raspadskaya Coal Company guarantees the fulfillment of its obligations under long-term contracts with its strategic partners through compensatory production by the company's other enterprises and from inventories," Raspadskaya said in a press release.
The Raspadskaya group includes Russia's biggest coking coal mine Raspadskaya, the MUK-96 deep mine, Raspadsky Razrez open-pit mine, the Raspadskaya-Koksovaya mine currently under construction, an enrichment plant and infrastructure units.
The Raspadskaya mine was rocked by several explosions in May 2010 that killed 91 people. The company has resumed mining in some sections not affected by the disaster, but fires continue to smolder in isolated mine workings.
Evraz owns 82% of Raspadskaya shares, and the free float on the Moscow Exchange is 18%.
