Putin calls for avoiding action that can boost Syria crisis

SOCHI, Russia. May 14 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Sochi on Tuesday that, in dealing with the crisis in Syria, it is "especially important" today "to avoid any action that can undermine the situation."

Putin said he and Netanyahu paid a great deal of attention to regional security during their talks, and that they had reached an agreement to maintain contacts between them, between individual Russian and Israeli ministries, and between Russian and Israeli intelligence services.

In closing the meeting, Putin wished Netanyahu a happy Shavuot (Feast of the Weeks), a Jewish holiday commemorating the day on which God is believed to have given the Torah to the entire nation of Israel.
