Ukrainian ministry to check reports of Ukrainians involved in smuggling arms to North Korea
KYIV. May 15 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry will check media reports on the involvement of two Ukrainian citizens in smuggling weapons to North Korea, acting director of the ministry's information policy department, Yevhen Perebyinis, has said.
"If such a UN document [cited by the media] does exist, we need to analyze it and find out whether it really concerns citizens of Ukraine," he said at a briefing on Wednesday.
Perebyinis said recent media reports quoting UN experts claimed that Ukraine supplied weapons to Libya." However, in the end an analysis of the situation showed that it was not true," he said.
The diplomat said that Ukraine clearly complies with all sanctions on arms supplies and that the current mechanism in the sphere does not allow supplying weapons to countries to which a ban on arms deliveries applies.
