Warehouses of large shipping company ablaze in Yerevan
YEREVAN. May 16 (Interfax) - A three-storey building, which accommodates the warehouses of a major shipping company, is burning on the southern outskirts of the Armenian capital Yerevan.
"The fire is still burning in the building. The interior walls and ceilings of the building have been destroyed. The exterior walls have been damaged. A decision has been made to destroy the building. Appropriate methods are being discussed," Col. Nikolai Grigoryan, deputy director of the Armenian Emergency Situations Ministry's rescue service, told Interfax.
The fire-stricken warehouses belong to the Spayka company, which specializes in cargo shipments to Russia, other CIS states and Europe, as well as exports of food and non-food commodities.
No one has been killed or injured in the blaze.
Sixteen fire engines are working at the site. The country's Emergency Situations Minister Armen Yeritzyan is present there as well.
The Aravot (Morning) newspaper has reported that one of the company's shareholders is Sedrak Kocharyan, the elder son of former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan.
