Customs Union to temporarily cancel import duty on fruit puree for juice July 1

MOSCOW. May 20 (Interfax) - The board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) has decided to temporarily lower the customs duty on imports of fruit puree from peaches, nectarines and apricots used to make juice from 15% to 0% of the customs value.

This duty-free allowance will be in effect from July 1, 2013 to December 31, 2014 inclusive, the EEC said in a statement.

"Given that the industrial demand for this good is satisfied by imported supplies, a reduction in the rate will serve not to allow an increase in prices for finished product and to maintain the volume of juice consumption," Trade Minister of the EEC Andrei Slepnev is quoted as saying in the statement.

By zeroing out the duty on raw materials for juice production, the EEC will help raise the workload at juice manufacturing enterprises, preserve existing jobs and create new ones, he said.
