Ruble strengthens against dollar, euro on Monday

MOSCOW. May 20 (Interfax) - The dollar and euro declined against the ruble on Monday evening as exporters sold forex on heightened demand for ruble liquidity.

The dollar fell 15.6 kopecks to 31.265 rubles/$1 as of 7:00 p.m. on the Moscow Exchange. The euro was down 10.95 kopecks to 40.1975 rubles/EUR1. The bi-currency basket had declined 13.5 kopecks of its value and was trading at 35.285 rubles.

The Central Bank lowered its official dollar rate for Tuesday by 5.25 kopecks to 31.3406 rubles/$1 and lowered its euro rate by 11.14 kopecks to 40.2633 rubles/EUR1.

The dollar averaged down 8.26 kopecks to 31.2951 rubles/$1 in Today deals and down 10.83 kopecks to 31.2911 rubles/$1 in Tom deals. Overall trading volume was $5.796 billion, including $1.633 billion Today and $4.163 billion Tom.

The euro was down 13.1 kopecks to 40.2396 rubles/EUR1 in Today deals and down 12.72 kopecks to 40.2402 rubles/EUR1 in Tom deals in volume of EUR462 million, including EUR218 million Today and EUR244 million Tom.

The MosPrime Rate for overnight credits was unchanged at 6.5%.
