Acting Moldovan PM Leanca says he started consultations on building new govt

CHISINAU. May 21 (Interfax) - Iurie Leanca, an acting Moldovan prime minister and candidate for prime minister, told journalists in Chisinau on Tuesday that he had started negotiations on setting up a new ruling coalition and building a new government.

Leanca took part in meetings with parliamentarians from the Democratic Party (DPM) and a group of parliamentarians that set up a council for reforming the Liberal Party.

The Liberal-Democratic Party (LDPM) presented a draft agreement on setting up a pro-European ruling coalition to the Democratic Party deputies.

"We presented a document drafted by the LDPM and will expect a response from our colleagues. All members of the political class should demonstrate their commitment to Moldova's European integration and prove their ability to put the state's interests above the partisan ones," Leanca said.

The deadline is May 30, and LDPM members agreed with their DPM colleagues to maintain close contacts in forming the coalition, he said.

"There are realistic preconditions that a new government will be formed and endorsed. One of the main goals is to determine a mechanism that would intensify internal contacts and lead to the distribution of duties and responsibilities rather than offices," he said.

He reaffirmed that the LDPM would hold negotiations only with the DPM and the group of Liberal Party deputies led by Ion Hadarca.

Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Lazar of the DPM and Hadarca said there are good chances to form a new government in the near future.
