Rogozin, Manturov responsible for normalization in Russian shipbuilding - Peskov
MOSCOW. May 22 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has made Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin and Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov responsible for the normalization of the situation in the country's shipbuilding industry, the head of state's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, told Interfax on Wednesday.
"All in all, after the meeting that took place yesterday in Sochi, Vladimir Putin named as responsible for the work of USC [United Shipbuilding Corporation] and the normalization of the situation in this sector Dmitry Rogozin and Denis Manturov," Peskov said.
Earlier, a representative of the governmental military-industrial commission offices told reporters that Putin had during the Sochi meeting told Rogozin to take under his personal control not only military, but also civilian shipbuilding. He said that under these orders Rogozin plans to discuss with the directors of the enterprises making up USC a roadmap for steps necessary for the corporation's normal operations.
During the meeting, Putin demanded that USC explain the reasons for delays in carrying out military shipbuilding projects.
"Problems still remain with the deadlines and quality of implementation of orders, including defense ones. In particular, the construction of a number of nuclear submarines and surface ships and their delivery to the Navy has been unjustifiably dragged out," Putin said.
USC has missed the deadlines on about 30% of its portfolio of contracts with the Defense Ministry, Manturov told reporters after the Tuesday meeting. "This is roughly around 30% of the total volume of Defense Ministry orders," he said.
