Syria will be high on agenda of Russia-EU summit in Yekaterinburg - diplomat
BRUSSELS. May 23 (Interfax) - The Syrian conflict will be high on the international agenda of a Russia-European Union summit in Yekaterinburg on June 3-4, Moscow's envoy to the EU Vladimir Chizhov told Interfax.
"The topic of Syria and the upcoming conference to be convened following the known Russian-American initiative, which, by the way, was supported by the European Union, will be among our priorities," he said.
"I do not know what scenario the situation will start to follow by the time of the Yekaterinburg summit, but plans to convene this conference in Geneva in mid-June are being discussed today. We hope that the EU will naturally take part in it, as it participated in last year's Geneva meeting, which will not stop EU member states, especially the permanent members of the UN Security Council, from attending this conference as well," he said.
Chizhov's full interview will be published on the www.interfax.ru website.
