Officer injured by mine blast in Ingushetia - investigators

NAZRAN. May 23 (Interfax) - A Russian Armed Forces officer was injured in a mine explosion in the mountains of the Dzheirakh district of Ingushetia in Russia's North Caucasus, a spokesman for the Russian Investigative Committee's Ingush branch told Interfax.

"Police were alerted at 2:40 p.m. Moscow time that a serviceman in the rank of lieutenant-colonel was injured when an unknown explosive device went off in the Nikh locality of the Dzheirakh district," the spokesman said.

Investigators are heading to the site, he said.

An inquiry has been started.

"The preliminary information available confirms that the serviceman is alive. He is being given medical care," the spokesman said.
