Forest fire approaches Yakutia village
YAKUTSK. May 24 (Interfax) - A forest fire is currently burning just 800 meters from the village of Suntar in Russia's Republic of Yakutia, the regional Interior Ministry said in a press release.
Fifteen policemen, Emergency Situations Ministry specialists and volunteers are combating the blaze, it said.
"All necessary measures are being taken to stop the fire from approaching the village even closer. Bulldozers are knocking down the trees to make a firebreak," it said.
Strong wind gusts are hampering the efforts to contain the blaze.
