FSB seizes 18.5 kilos of heroin in Moscow area

MOSCOW. May 29 (Interfax) - The Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) has reported the blockage of an international channel for trafficking heroin produced in Afghanistan from Kyrgyzstan to Russia.

"FSB officers in the Moscow area detained two couriers who have delivered heroin from Kyrgyzstan to Russia and two drug recipients planning to market it in Moscow and the Moscow region," the FSB press service told Interfax on Wednesday.

"As much as 18.5 kilos of heroin have been seized from illegal turnover," it said.

People related to the shipment of the drugs to Russia have been identified, their roles determined, and measures taken to catch the drug dealers red-handed, the FSB said.

The FSB's investigative department has opened a criminal case against the said people, and a court sanctioned their pretrial arrest.
