Businessman Kozlov to fight for his sentence reversal, will file lawsuit seeking compensation, rehabilitation - lawyer
MOSCOW. May 31 (Interfax) - Businessman Alexei Kozlov, who was released from custody by the Moscow City Court presidium, will demand compensation for illegal prosecution.
"Of course, we will use this right and file a lawsuit seeking compensation and rehabilitation. Today the court has sentenced him to four years in prison and he has done almost 4.5 years," Kozlov's lawyer Alkhas Abgadzhadva told Interfax on Friday.
Despite today's ruling issued by the Moscow City Court, Kozlov and his lawyers will file an appeal with the Supreme Court to seek a reversal of the sentence, including on the count of "fraud in large amounts," he said.
"Alexei Kozlov should be released in the near future, but everything will depend on how soon the documents reach the colony. I hope Alexei will walk free at the coming weekend," the lawyer said.
On Friday, the Moscow City Court presidium ordered the release of Alexei Kozlov, who was convicted for illegal schemes involving shares.
