Medvedev: Ukraine will hopefully not assume obligations at odds with its presence in EEU

MINSK. May 31 (Interfax) - Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev welcomes the signing of the Memorandum on broadening Ukraine's interaction with the Eurasian Economic Commission, but urged Kyiv not to make steps at odds with this integration.

"We have just witnessed the signing of the Memorandum with Ukraine. It was the first step, important step and necessary step. And we are happy about this. But it could also become the last step if one remains idle," Medvedev told the Business People's Forum of the Common Economic Space.

"We welcome this step, but we also understand that if our partners want to be present in the Eurasian Economic Union, they will have to make some difficult and possibly unpopular decisions - all decisions, not just some of them," Medvedev said.

Ukrainian partners "must not assume obligations ruling out their participation in the Eurasian Economic space and union," he said.

"This must be as clear as daylight to all. If this does not happen, we will remain friends, of course, and continue broadening bilateral relations. But this won't be a common market," Medvedev said.
