Georgian Airways launching air service between Kutaisi, Moscow on June 11

TBILISI. June 3 (Interfax) - Georgian Airways which performs charter flights between Tbilisi and Moscow jointly with the Russian air company Sibir (S7 Airlines), is launching an air service between Kutaisi, a major city in western Georgia, and Moscow, a Georgian Airways spokesman told Interfax.

"There are two return flights from Kutaisi to Moscow on the weekly schedule - on Tuesdays and Fridays," the spokesman said.

Kutaisi will be the third Georgian city to be provided with direct air services to Moscow by Sibir and Georgian Airways on a parity basis. In addition to this, Georgian Airways flies passengers to Moscow from Batumi on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Air services were ruptured between Russia and Georgia in August 2008 in connection with the conflict in South Ossetia. Charter flights were resumed in August 2010.

The Georgian prime minister's special envoy for settling relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze said at the end of 2012 that the government was busy working to restore air services between the two countries, but legal and organizations problems persisted, he said.

"Air services is not an easy issue," Abashidze said.
