Ukrainian steel industry cuts roll output 1% in 5M

KYIV. June 3 (Interfax) - Ukraine's steel industry produced 12.313 million tonnes of roll in January-May 2013, 1% less than in the same period of last year, the Metallurgprom association told Interfax.

Crude steel production fell 2% to 13.815 million tonnes, and pig iron production was level at 12.086 million tonnes.

The country produced 714,000 tonnes of steel pipes, down 26% year-on-year. Ukrainian coke production fell 10% to 7.396 million tonnes but hardware was up 12% to 93,000 tonnes. Scrap metal supplies to Ukrainian steel mills fell 12% to 1.862 million tonnes.

Ukraine produced 34.596 million tonnes of crude iron ore in 5M 2013, 3% more than in the same period of last year. Iron ore concentrate production grew 3% to 28.639 million tonnes, sinter production was flat at 18.212 million tonnes and pellet output grew 2% to 9.578 million tonnes.
