Foreign, illegal migrants commit half of crimes in Moscow - Interior Ministry

MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax) - Half of the crimes committed in Moscow are committed by residents of other cities and illegal migrants, Anatoly Yakunin, the head of the Interior Ministry's Main Department for Moscow, said.

"Fifty percent of the crimes committed in Moscow are committed by people from other cities, and 20% of them, as a rule, are committed by illegal migrants, mainly people from Central Asia," Yakunin said in an interview published in the Thursday edition of Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

Yakunin said residents of other cities and migrants commit " crimes such as killings, robbery, and assault."

"We keep records of resolved crimes when we know precisely who committed them. Hence the statistics. The more crimes we resolve, the more is the percentage of crimes committed by migrants," Yakunin said.
