Romodanovsky promises offensive on illegal migration in Moscow
MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax) - Russian Federal Migration Service Director Konstantin Romodanovsky said the law enforcement agencies will be working more actively to fight illegal immigration in Moscow.
"I think the period of offense on illegal migration in Moscow has come," Romodanovsky told reporters at the meeting of the Council of the Heads of Migration Services of the CIS countries on Thursday.
Romodanovsky said the recent collegium held in the Migration Service, which was attended by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, reached an agreement on transition to more active measures to combat illegal immigration in Moscow.
"If we speak about drawing additional forces, it will be done, if need be. We currently hope for growing interaction with the Interior Ministry bodies," Romodanovsky said, responding to a question form Interfax on operations against illegal immigrants that are planned in Moscow.
The inflow of migrants to Russia has become alarming, Romodanovsky said on Thursday.
"We registered a considerable increase in the number of people entering Russia in the past four years. It was felt especially in 2012 and 2013, when the number of people entering Russia went up one-third. Many people come to Russia with the intention of getting a job, but without appropriate qualifications," Romodanovsky said.
On May 17, Federal Migration Service Konstantin Romodanovsky said a large-scale campaign against illegal migration was planned in Moscow.
"I don't mean to say that the situation in Moscow is critical. It's difficult. There is nothing deadly in the situation in Moscow, and there won't be," Romodanovsky then said.
Romodanovsky said 18% of all crimes committed in Moscow and 3.4% of all crimes committed in Russia are committed by foreigners.
