Court arrests suspected organizer of attempted terror attack in Moscow
MOSCOW. June 6 (Interfax) - The Moscow Lefortovo Court ordered to arrest Yulai Davletbayev on Thursday, suspected organizer of preparations for a terror attack in the capital city, an Interfax correspondent reported.
Davletbayev will stay under arrest through July 20 on suspicion of severe felonies, including illegal production and storing of weapons.
The court heard his case in camera.
The National Counter-Terrorism Committee reported the detention of Davletbayev in the Mytishchi district of the Moscow region on Thursday morning.
It said the Davletbayev gang was operating in the Moscow region on the orders of the so-called Islamic Party of Turkestan. The committee said the militants were preparing for their crimes on the premises of a rented apartment in Orekhovo-Zuyevo.
Investigative procedures as regards members of the Davletbayev gang are in progress.
The Supreme Court branded the Islamic Party of Turkestan a terrorist organization in 2003. It upheld the demand of the Prosecutor General's Office acting under the Law "On the Suppression of Terrorism". Security service representatives told Interfax that was one of the most powerful, well organized and widely spread terrorist organizations on the post-Soviet space maintaining active contacts with Al Qaeda.
