Georgian Interior Ministry looking for authors of jihad declaration video
TBILISI. June 7 (Interfax) - The Georgian Interior Ministry is working to identify the authors of a June 6 online video that declares jihad on behalf of the Taliban movement against Georgian soldiers deployed in Afghanistan, as well as against Georgia's President Mikheil Saakashvili and Defense Minister Irakly Alasania.
"We know your names, addresses and your relatives. We will soon come to Georgia and take revenge," the video message says.
A terrorist attack was staged on a Georgian base in Afghanistan on Thursday, claiming the lives of seven servicemen and injuring another nine.
Georgia's Rustavi-2 television station has reported, citing its own sources, that the video was posted online in Georgia, and the Interior Ministry asked the Google administration to disclose the IP address of the computer that was used to post the video online.
Georgian Parliament Speaker David Usupashvili, for his part, has advised against sparking any frenzy over this video. He ruled out any links between the video and the terrorist attack on Georgian soldiers in Afghanistan.
"There are many theories behind this video, ranging from the actual declaration of jihad by the Taliban to another PR campaign by Saakashvili, who needs it to sort out his own problems. At this stage, I do not believe any of the theories and will wait for the results of the official investigation," Usupashvili said.
