Car imports to Russia fall 8.3% in January-April - customs
MOSCOW. June 7 (Interfax) - Russia imported 297,200 cars worth $5.929 billion in the first four months of 2013 compared with 324,200 worth $6.682 billion in the same period last year, an 8.3% increase, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) said.
Car imports from outside the CIS were up 5.7% to 277,100 units worth $5.785 billion, while imports from CIS countries decreased 30.4% to 20,100 units worth $144 million.
Truck imports were down 16.7% to 26,500 worth $774 million in January-April.
Russia exported 43,400 cars worth $436.6 million during the four months versus 33,800 worth $275.6 million a year earlier.
Russia also exported 5,500 trucks (up 14.6% year-on-year) worth $159.5 million, with 5,200 worth $102.4 million of them going to CIS countries.
Russia mainly imports vehicles from Japan, Germany, Uzbekistan, Korea, the UK, and Ukraine. The country mainly exports automobiles to Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Latvia.
Russia's main vehicle exporters are its Russia's largest automaker AvtoVAZ and its largest truck maker OJSC KamAZ . The leading importers brands are General Motors, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, Nissan, UZ-Daewoo, and BMW.
