Putin had been aware of Makhachkala mayor's planned arrest - spokesman

MOSCOW. June 7 (Interfax) - President Vladimir Putin was notified about the planned arrest of Makhachkala Mayor Said Amirov, who is accused of plotting the 2011 murder of a senior criminal investigator, according to the presidential spokesman.

"He undoubtedly was [aware of Amirov's planned arrest] - he gets regular reports from special services," Dmitry Peskov said in a program on Friday on Russia's Dozhd television.

Amirov came under prosecution on May 31, was arrested on June 1, sent to Moscow the same day, and put in two months' pretrial detention on June 2 by court order. He is accused of masterminding the murder in December 2011 of Arsen Gadzhibekov, head of the investigation agency of one of Makhachkala's districts.

Russian Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin told Interfax that Amirov and two others had been charged with murder as part of the same case.
