Airbases in Karelia, Leningrad, Murmansk regions under surprise inspection
MOSCOW. June 10 (Interfax-AVN) - Airbases stationed in Karelia, the Leningrad and Murmansk regions have been alerted for surprise verification of their combat readiness, the Russian Defense Ministry press service and information department said.
"Under the surprise verification plan, the First Air Force/Air Defense Command of the Western Military District was ordered to move aircraft from bases to alternative and tactical airfields," says the report obtained by Interfax-AVN on Monday.
Sukhoi Su-24 aircraft will be moved from their base in the Murmansk region to a distance of more than 700 kilometers.
In all, about 20 planes and helicopters of the First Air Force/Air Defense Command of the Western Military District will be inspected.
The Defense Ministry said Mil Mi-24 and Mi-8 helicopters will be moved more than 350 kilometers from their airfield in the Leningrad region.
