Sobyanin has no intention of engaging in politics to detriment city affairs

MOSCOW. June 13 (Interfax) - Acting Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin said he is ready to work with all political parties.

"We meet with them regularly, have consultations, and take their proposals to work on them. Of course, I will work in United Russia more actively and we will work with the Popular Front. However, I will not plunge into politics to the detriment of city affairs," Sobyanin said in an interview published in the Thursday edition of Izvestiya.

Sobyanin said he believes Muscovites will not like it if the city mayor engages in politics to the detriment of the city affairs.

In addition, Sobyanin said he does not rule out the possibility of creating a two-party system in Russia.

"It's an issue of the historical situation in a specific country. It's not very realistic for us to say there will be a two-party system now. Although it would not be a bad to approach this issue theoretically," he said.

Sobyanin also said he is happy about his current job as mayor of Moscow.

"I know this work. In actuality, I wouldn't want to work in the government. I believe the job of Moscow mayor is one of the most interesting jobs. There are some problems here, and there are resources and specific possibilities of resolving this problem. What brings us satisfaction in life? Setting tasks and resolving them, not the endless process that doesn't lead to anything,' Sobyanin said responding to a question as to whether he would be interested in becoming prime minister.

Sobyanin said the job of prime minister "is difficult and is not fulfilling."

"The government is a big machine, where a lot of decisions are made and a lot of regulations are adopted. In most cases you don't see where problems end, you don't see the results of your work," he said.
