Five kilograms of heroin confiscated in Novosibirsk region
NOVOSIBIRSK. June 14 (Interfax) - Novosibirsk police have confiscated a large haul of heroin from a local resident, who is suspected of drug dealing, a spokesman for the regional branch of the Russian Federal Drug Control Service told Interfax on Friday.
Three or so kilograms of heroin were found in the suspect's car, which was searched as part of an ongoing investigation.
Two caches containing another two kilograms of heroin were found near a local motorway.
The drugs belong to a 36-year-old businessman from Novosibirsk. Policemen confiscated ten kilograms of heroin from him and his accomplice in May.
"Thus, a total of 15 kilograms of the drug were confiscated from the two suspects," the spokesman said.
It was one of the largest heroin hauls ever confiscated in the Novosibirsk region.
A criminal inquiry was opened against the suspects on counts of illegal possession, preparations to sell and sales of large hauls of drugs. They could face a life sentence if found guilty.
