Gazprom mulling power plant construction in Republika Srpska

MOSCOW. June 14 (Interfax) - Russian gas giant Gazprom is looking into laying a spur from the South Stream gas pipeline to Republika Srpska, (part of Bosnia and Herzegovina) and constructing gas-fired power facilities in the country, the company reported.

Gazprom's Deputy CEO Alexander Medvedev and President of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik have signed a roadmap for energy projects in the republic in the framework of the South Stream project.

This document determines the sequence of measures to confirm construction possibilities and the subsequent operation of the South Stream spur, as well as the construction of gas-fired power production facilities in Republika Srpska.

According to the roadmap, Russia and Bosnia and Herzegovina will have to sign an intergovernmental cooperation agreement on building and operating the pipeline spur and the power generating facilities.

In the future, the key commercial terms for natural gas supplies to Republika Srpska via South Stream will have to be coordinated, as will feasibility studies to build and operate the pipeline spur and to erect gas-fired electricity facilities.

Gazprom is planning to lay South Stream through the Black Sea to South and Central Europe. Russia has signed intergovernmental agreements with Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Greece, Slovenia and Croatia for the on-land portion of the pipeline.
