Meningitis confirmed in 47 children in Rostov-on-Don

ROSTOV-ON-DON. June 17 (Interfax) - Seventy-six children and four adults remain in the infectious disease wing of Semashko Central City Hospital N1 in Rostov-on-Don.

"Meningitis has been confirmed in 47 children," Rafail Devlikamov, the head of the Rostov-on-Don healthcare department, told Interfax on Monday.

One of the adult patients, the mother of a child who was suspected of having enterovirus, is in the intensive care department in serious condition, he said.

Devlikamov added that two children who go to Kindergarten at N186 have been discharged from the intensive care unit.

The press service for the Rostov region's healthcare ministry has reported that four adults, including an educator from Kindergarten N186, remain hospitalized in the Rostov-on-Don Central City Hospital.

An outbreak of the illness has recently been registered in Rostov-on-Don's Kindergarten N83 Teremok. One kindergartener was hospitalized with acute septic meningoencephalitis, was hospitalized on June 2. The child died on June 4.

Another child died of meningococcal infection in Rostov-on-Don on June 13.
