Putin, Obama hope new opportunities to resolve Iranian nuclear issue will emerge after election

LOUGH ERNE, UK. June 18 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin hopes that conditions for the resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue will appear after the presidential election in Iran.

"We hope that after the election in Iran there will appear new opportunities for the resolution of the Iranian nuclear issue," Putin said in the wake of the talks with U.S. President Barack Obama on the sidelines of the G8 summit in Lough Erne.

Obama expressed a position similar to Putin's. The two presidents came to a conclusion that the U.S. and Russia have a common ground on North Korea and Iran, in particular the parties expressed optimism over the recent election in Iran, he said, adding that this may lead to the resumption of dialog in order to resolve all issues linked to the Iranian nuclear program.
