Findings of probe into chemical weapons use in Syria to be presented to UN Security Council - Putin

LOUGH ERNE. June 18 (Interfax) - The G8 leaders have agreed that findings of an investigation regarding the use of chemical weapons in Syria, including possibly by Syrian opposition groups, will be presented to the UN Security Council, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"We know about the detention of [Syrian] opposition figures with chemical weapons in Turkey. We have information coming from Iraq that a laboratory manufacturing chemical weapons for the opposition was revealed there. All these facts need to be examined seriously," Putin said at a press conference following a G8 summit.

"We agreed that the results of this analysis will be presented to the UN Security Council, where, as is known, Russia is a permanent member. We will certainly take active parts in handing down definitive judgments about this work," Putin said.
