Aeroflot suspends Kalmykov pending investigation

MOSCOW. June 19 (Interfax) - Aeroflot Russian Airlines has suspended First Deputy General Director for Operating Activities Andrei Kalmykov from his duties pending the outcome of the investigation against him, the airline said.

"A. Kalmykov has been relieved of his duties during the investigation in the context of a criminal case initiated by the Moscow inter-regional investigatory department for transport at the Russian Investigative Committee into the infliction of substantial harm to the rights and legal interests of OJSC Aeroflot and the state," a statement issued by the airline says.

A source familiar with the situation said that the Investigative Committee has prohibited Kalmykov from leaving the country due to the investigation, noting that Kalmykov holds both Russian and Turkish citizenship.

The airline's general director, Vitaly Savelyev, told the press on Tuesday that Aeroflot would be deciding what course of action to take with respect to Kalmykov only after the investigation is completed.
