Onishchenko vows ultra-severity if Georgia delivers inferior alcohol
MOSCOW. June 21 (Interfax) - Sanitary authorities will be harsh if counterfeit or inferior wine and mineral water from Georgia appear on the Russian market, Rospotrebnadzor head, chief public health official Gennady Onishchenko told Interfax on Friday.
"Hopefully, that will not happen," he said.
"Everyone remembers the situation that forced us to take extra-radical measures several years ago. Our response will be even more severe if the situation repeats," he said.
Russia banned Georgian wine and mineral water imports in 2006 over quality claims.
Georgian deliveries have resumed after a long pause. Borjomi supply started in May, and wine arrived in June.
