U.S. vows to stay involved in Afghan affairs after troop pullout

ASTANA. June 21 (Interfax) - U.S. President Barack Obama has assured his Kazakh counterpart, Nursultan Nazarbayev, that the United States will remain deeply involved in the affairs of Afghanistan and the entire region after American troops leave Afghanistan.

It is in the interests of both the United States and Kazakhstan that Afghanistan should be a prosperous country and that destructive forces should never again be able to find shelter in that country, Obama said in a letter to Nazarbayev whose text was published by the Kazakh president's office.
