Gazprom applies for about ten sections on Yamal Peninsula
ST. PETERSBURG. June 22 (Interfax) - Russian gas giant Gazprom has submitted applications to perform geological study at about ten federally significant sections on the Yamal Peninsula, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Sergei Donskoi told reporters.
"They've actually already submitted [applications]. There are oil and gas rims at several sections. We'll hold auctions for these sections. Those with pure gas will be given to Gazprom," he said.
Donskoi did not specify the sections in question, noting merely that there are about ten. They are federally significant, meaning they contain 70 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas reserves or more.
The auctions might be announced in the fall and held by the end of the year.
