Opposition coalition breaks up in Kyrgyz parliament
BISHKEK. June 26 (Interfax) - The minority coalition in the Kyrgyz parliament has broken up due to the decision of the Respublika opposition faction to join the pro-government majority. The announcement was made at the parliament session on Wednesday, a parliament staff spokesman told Interfax.
The minority coalition united Ata Zhurt and Respublika factions.
Respublika said in early June it intended to quit the opposition and join the pro-government majority. Negotiating groups were formed.
The parliament staff said that Respublika would formally remain an opposition faction until it joined the majority coalition. Thus, there is only one opposition faction left, Ata Zhurt.
The parliamentary majority comprises the Social Democrats, Ar-Namys and Ata Meken.
There are 120 deputies in the Kyrgyz parliament.
