Uzbekistan is concerned about situation on Tajik border

TASHKENT. June 26 (Interfax) - Uzbek border guards have pointed out increases in violations of the Uzbek-Tajik border by Tajik citizens, the press service for the Committee on State Border Protection of the Uzbek National Security Service reported on Wednesday.

Specifically, a group of unknown individuals armed with hunting rifles entered Uzbekistan from Tajikistan, took local residents and their cattle, and led them to Tajikistan on June 7, the press service reported.

On June 14-15, Uzbek border guards detained five residents of Tajikistan who were shepherding over 1,470 heads of cattle on the territory of Uzbekistan, the press service reported.

On June 23, Uzbek border guards noticed Tajik men shepherding their cattle on the territory of Bakhmal district, Jizak region of Uzbekistan. When the border guards tried to detain them, the men left for Tajikistan, leaving their cattle behind. The next day, three armed men entered Uzbekistan and captured three shepherds, citizens of Uzbekistan, and their 1,500 heads of cattle and tried to lead them to Uzbekistan.

One of the shepherds was able to escape and report the incident to the border guard services. The shepherds were released and the cattle were returned to them, but the violators were able to hide in Tajikistan, the press service reported.

"All these incidents are currently being investigated in accordance with the Uzbek legislation,| the press service reported.

"The seized cattle was handed over to Tajikistan to ensure constructive relations between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan," the press service reported.
