Fire engulfs street in Almaty after tank truck crash
ALMATY. June 27 (Interfax) - Fire teams are trying to put out a fire raging in the area of Seifulin Street and Kabanbai Batyr Street in Almaty, an Interfax correspondent reports.
Trees and lamp posts in the street are engulfed in flames, and the fire has already spread onto an eight-story residential house. Six or seven cars have also been charred, and explosions are heard.
The fire has been presumably caused by a tank truck crash. Preliminary findings indicate that the driver of the truck moving along Seifulin Street lost control of it and collided with a post, which caused the fuel spill from the tank and ignite. Fuel is currently flowing down a roadside irrigation ditch and burning.
The first fire team arrived at the scene at 10:11 a.m. local time. Security guards from Rixos Hotel have unfolded fire hoses and are trying to prevent the fire from spreading onto the hotel building.
