Ukraine gives back 713 books brought over during WWII to Germany

KYIV. June 27 (Interfax) - Ukraine has handed back to Germany 713 books from the library of Berlin's Sugar Museum that were brought over to the Soviet Union during World War II.

"We will go on with the process of returning valuable items that were lost or illegally relocated during World War II," Ukrainian Deputy Culture Minister Bronislav Stychynsky said during the handover ceremony in Kyiv on Thursday.

He argued that the restitution of cultural property would help enhance the climate in Ukrainian-German relations.

German Ambassador to Ukraine Christof Weil, who was present at the ceremony, promised that Germany would help find Ukrainian cultural legacy items that went missing during the war.
