ROSTOV-ON-THE-DON. July 1 (Interfax) - LLC Can-Pack, a subsidiary of Polish packaging company Can-Pack S.A., has launched a drink canning plant in Novocherkassk, Rostov region.

The investment project, which began in 2011, cost 3 billion rubles, the Rostov region Industry and Energy Ministry said in a press release.

Production capacity will be 1 billion drink cans per year. Equipment for the plant was supplied by Germany, the United States and other countries.

The plant also houses a quality standards laboratory and a warehouse. The products will be supplied to drinks manufacturers in Rostov region and other Russian regions as well as exports to Ukraine.

The new plant is the company's second in Russia, the release said.

Can-Pack launched its first Russian aluminum can plant in Volokolamsk, Moscow region, in April 2010.

The Can-Pack group produces plastic and metal packaging for the food, chemicals and cosmetics industries. It has around 30 plants in Europe, Africa and Asia.
