FSKN chief proposes to set up CSTO center for deterring Afghan drugs

MOSCOW. July 2 (Interfax) - Federal Drug Control Service Director Viktor Ivanov has proposed to set up a CSTO center for deterring drug trafficking from Afghanistan.

"The center's primary objective should be the elaboration, planning, preparation and holding of anti-drug operations by CSTO forces," Ivanov said at a meeting of the CSTO Council of Heads of Anti-Drug Services in Moscow on Tuesday.

The operations will be held by units of CSTO member countries in cooperation with Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan, he said.

The CSTO press service told Interfax the center for anti-drug operations would work on the territories of CSTO member countries and would not engage in combat on the Afghan territory.
