Court to return verdict on case against Magnitsky, Browder on July 11

MOSCOW. July 3 (Interfax) - Moscow's Tverskoy Court will return the verdict in absentia to auditor of Hermitage Capital Sergei Magnitsky, who died in a detention facility, and Hermitage Capital Head William Browder on the case on tax evasion.

According to the Interfax correspondent, the court scheduled the date to return the verdict after hearing arguments of the parties. The verdict will be given on July 11.

Lawyer Nikolai Gerasimov, who by court's ruling is representing Magnitsky, asked the court to return the case to prosecutors.

"The wish of relatives to have the case reopened is not proved by any documents. All actions after such a decision of the prosecutor's office, including the trial in court, are illegal," Gerasimov said.

Browder's court-appointed lawyer, Kirill Goncharov, asked the court to acquit his client. "Proof of Browder's guilt has not been provided," he said.

The prosecutor asked Moscow's Tverskoy Court earlier on Wednesday to sentence Browder in absentia to nine years for tax evasion.
