Moscow cannot fulfill Europe's recommendations contradicting Russian legislation - Torshin
MOSCOW. July 4 (Interfax) - Russia is ready to fulfill the recommendations of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) and European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) if those recommendations do not refer to changing fundamental principles of the Russian legislation, Russian Federation Council First Deputy Speaker Alexander Torshin said at a meeting with speakers of the PACE's Monitoring Committee Theodora Bakoyannis and Andreas Gross.
"We deal with a lot of issues regarding the implementation of recommendations from PACE and ECHR related to our country. But at the same time, there are certain things that will never be supported in our country, that contradict not only fundamental principles of our legislation but public disposition as well," Torshin said.
Torshin said that the ECHR is currently considering lawsuit of two Russian citizens, who filed the complaint in Strasburg about the impossibility of entering into a same-sex marriage. "When it refers to recommendations regarding changes of our legislation, the situation is special here and there are recommendations that cannot be fulfilled because they contradict the Russian legislation and will not be generally understood in our country," he said.
