Communists determined to initiate vote of no confidence in govt at Duma - first deputy chairman
MOSCOW. July 5 (Interfax) - The Russian Communist Party's parliamentary faction is determined to start the procedure of passing a vote of no-confidence in the government at the State Duma, Communist Party Central Committee First Deputy Chairman Ivan Melnikov said.
"At the present moment, 101 signatures [of parliamentarians] have been collected, which is significantly more than is necessary. This shows the sincere desire of many deputies to support this pressing initiative, and the party leadership will make public its additional tactics and strategy next week," Melnikov told Interfax on Friday.
The Communist faction treats "this procedure very seriously, and we will determine the most effective ways to achieve the goal that has been set and announced," Melnikov said.
If the Communists submit the motion to the Duma, it will have to gather for an extraordinary session within a week. The spring and summer parliamentary session was closed without the Communist faction on Friday, as the latter left the session hall last week in protest of the passage of a bill on the reform of the Russian Academy of Sciences at its first reading.
The Duma passed the bill at the second reading earlier on Friday.
The Communists said they were pushing for a vote of no confidence in the government not only because of this bill.
