Over 100 immigrants from Syria arrive in Abkhazia

SUKHUMI. July 6 (Interfax) - A group of 114 members of the Abkhaz diaspora in Syria has arrived in Abkhazia to settle there, the Abkhaz State Repatriation Committee told Interfax.

The immigrants were delivered on a plane chartered by the Abkhaz government from Beirut to Sochi, Russia, from where they were transported to Abkhazia by buses.

Valery Maliya, the head of the Gudauta district administration, told journalists the Abkhaz immigrants have been accommodated at a resort center in Gudauta. "Our compatriots will live at the resort center until they are provided with their own housing," Maliya said.

Khrips Jopua, the chief of the Abkhaz State Repatriation Committee, said a total of 446 members of the Abkhaz diaspora in Syria have moved to Abkhazia since the start of the conflict in Syria.
